The Hingham Girls Basketball League, aka The G League (formerly G.A.L.S.) provides athletes an in-town opportunity to compete, build friendships, work as a team, and have a blast falling in love with the game of basketball.

Hingham Youth Basketball is excited about a number of new features in this year's league that we're sure you'll love:

• Simplified communication and organization tools via Crossbar
• Consistent in-town schedules that do not overlap with Hingham Girls Travel games
• Improved gym quality and court time
• Referees for Grades 3+
• Playoffs and championships for Grades 3+
• Weekly skills clinics with top-tier outside instructors, called The Lab
• Inaugural WNBA team replica jerseys celebrating the 30th anniversary of professional basketball in America

We're so excited to get the season going. Please register ahead of our October 31st registration deadline to avoid a late registration fee.

If you intend to play Hingham Girls Travel basketball this season, please indicate that in your G League registration. Travel tryout dates will be announced very soon.

The G League is an integral part of our Travel program. All travel players will play in the G League as well.

WHEN: Monday October 19th and Monday October 26th

WHERE: McKelvey Gymnasium at Derby Academy

HOW TO REGISTER: Register for the G League and answer "yes" when asked if your player intends to play travel basketball.

WHAT TO BRING:

• Players should wear comfortable athletic clothing.
• Please wear a pair of clean-soled sneakers.
• Water bottle

WHAT TO EXPECT:

• Players will receive numbered pinnies to identify them to evaluators.
• Players will participate in a handful of drills as well as short games.
• Each evaluation will last an hour.
• Players must attend at least one evaluation to be considered for a team. Players may not evaluate with a different grade.
• This is a drop off event. Parents are not permitted on the court. There is a viewing area at the top of the steps where parents are welcome to hang out and watch.

POST-EVAL PROCESS:

• Hingham Girls Travel Basketball will use evaluation data and coach input to place players at the best level for their continued development after the second evaluation is complete.
• Players will receive a personalized roster invitation including travel registration, which is where you will pay your travel player fee.

This year we're celebrating the 30th anniversary of the WNBA and the beginning of professional women's basketball in America.

Eight teams launched the W back in the 1996-97 season bringing professional women's basketball onto the TV screens and into the living rooms of countless young athletes.

We'll kick things off with one of the founding franchises that still stands as one of the most successful in league history. Whether it's T Spoon and Lobo or JQJ, Sab, and Stewie, the Liberty have always led the way.

Teresa Weatherspoon is one of the most decorated players in basketball history.

A Basketball Hall of Famer, Weatherspoon's accomplishments include winning the 1988 NCAA championship at Louisiana Tech as well as the 1988 Olympic Gold Medal and 1992 Olympic Silver Medal.

She was a foundational star when the WNBA began in '96-'97. As a star guard for the New York Liberty, she was a 5-time all star and WNBA defensive player of the year in 1997 and 1998.

T Spoon also made one of the most famous shots in WNBA history to win Game 2 of the 1999 WNBA Finals against the eventual champion, Houston Comets.
